Outsourcing giant EDS has tapped Ron Rittenmeyer, currently the company’s president and COO, as its new CEO, effective September 1. Rittenmeyer will replace Michael Jordan, who has been CEO and chairman since 2003 and led EDS’ successful turnaround after a series of financial problems and troublesome contracts.

Rittenmeyer hasn’t been with EDS that long; he came on board in 2005 as vice president of service delivery, and last year he became president and COO. Prior to joining EDS, he was managing director of private equity firm The Cypress Group. He has also held executive roles at other big companies, such as Safety-Kleen, AmeriServe, Frito-Lay, and several rail and transport firms.

After Septmeber 1, Jordan will remain chairman and serve as an “executive officer” at EDS, according to a company statement.
