Computer manufacturer Dell agreed this week to buy privately-held Sliverback Technologies for its remote monitoring and management software; the third company it has bought in its history.
Dell is not disclosing the financial terms of the deal at this time but said it will do once the transaction closes.
Billerica, Massachusetts-based Silverback offers a comprehensive service delivery platform that provides remote monitoring and management tools for servers, storage, networks, desktops and notebooks.
Dell plans to integrate SilverBack into its operations as part of its ongoing strategy of “IT simplification”. The company recently launched its Vostro line of computers aimed at SMB users that effectively strips away software that many customers have claimed in the past as unnecessary.
This is the second acquisition that Round Rock, Texas-based Dell has made in the past 14 months. It acquired gaming systems company Alienware last May.
However CEO Michael Dell recently said the company’s services business is opening itself up to more merger and acquisition opportunities.
Silverback is a venture-funded company.
